What We Do
In times of escalating global crises - from climate breakdown and armed conflict to rising authoritarianism and deepening inequality – we believe that the need for critical global citizenship education has taken on a particular urgency.
Our approach to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) helps people make sense of a complex world.
We support participants to understand the root causes of social and environmental injustice, engage in meaningful dialogue across different perspectives, build empathy, imagine alternative futures, and take action on the issues they care about.
We work with partners across higher education in Ireland - including staff, students’ unions and student societies - to make Global Citizenship Education a key part of campus life.
We:
- Offer accessible co-curricular and extracurricular programmes and events
- Collaborate with institutions to embed GCE in teaching and across campus
- Support students’ unions and societies to lead on global issues
We are Irish Aid’s strategic partner working to embed GCE in the higher education sector, contributing to implementing their global citizenship education strategy.

through the Ideas Collective, our summer social incubator, STAND News, our global-justice focused journalism platform, and the STAND Changemakers Academy, our deepest and most immersive programme.
We integrate
global citizenship education across higher education campuses through our partnerships with staff, student societies and student unions. We offer:
- grants that help systemically integrate GCE;
- national digital badges & capacity building trainings for staff and students;
- an annual student barometer surveying students attitudes and values;
- a space to collaborate and work with each other;
- educator’s toolkits and we sponsor national awards that recognise global citizenship and justice work.
