STAND Training to Empower Communities in Dublin
When the South Dublin County Partnership (SDCP) sought to launch a new leadership programme for refugees and asylum seekers, they turned to STAND, and we were commissioned to design and deliver a three-day “Leadership in the Community” training in partnership with SDCP.
“I’ve admired STAND’s work for years. Their delivery is genuinely the best I’ve seen in the sector. I often invite my own team to observe their trainings so they can learn from their approach and bring that quality into our own programmes.” says Triona Reid, Migrant Integration and Employment Placement Senior Manager at SDCP.
“Working with STAND is an absolute dream. They’re professional, organised, and incredibly thoughtful. They take the time to understand both our organisational needs and those of our participants—and they always deliver something that hits the mark.”
The programme brought together 25 participants from refugee and asylum-seeking communities in South County Dublin, culminating in a certificate-awarding celebration. In addition, 45 people engaged in wider workshops during the training week. Designed to build leadership skills, foster integration, and support community-led action, the programme went beyond skills-building, it nurtured a sense of belonging, connection, and purpose.
“Their delivery is second to none. We run multiple programmes every month, but the response to STAND’s work was on another level,” Triona said. “Participants, staff, and even long-time supporters reached out to share how powerful the experience was.”
For Triona, what sets STAND apart is a combination of professionalism, creativity, and intentionality. From the clarity of planning to the warmth of delivery, she reports that participants not only learned but felt seen, heard, and valued throughout.
“What really stands out is the way they lead with solidarity, inclusivity, and empowerment. You can feel the intention behind everything they do. Their work leaves a lasting impact.”
Following the success of this initiative, Triona has recommended STAND to other departments and hopes to bring the team in to train SDCP staff directly.
