MEET THE TEAM

Our team of section editors work with student contributors to brainstorm ideas, review and edit articles, suggest discussion topics and finalise drafts. Made up of over 40 contributors and 9 editors, the STAND News Team is a diverse group of students and recent graduates from across Ireland with common interests in global issues, social justice and sustainable development.

Programme Assistant Intern

Alex is our current Programme Assistant Intern at STAND News. She is currently studying a Master’s in Journalism in Dublin City University. She also has a BA in English and Film from University College Dublin. Alex is 23 and from Limerick. She has been actively involved in student newspapers and magazines throughout her time in college, with interests in politics, social justice, and the arts. In her spare time, she enjoys reading.

Humanitarian Editor

Amyrose is our Humanitarian Editor. She’s a final year student at Trinity College Dublin studying English. She has lived in Dublin, the midlands and the east coast of Scotland. She joined the STAND team as an outlet for her twin passions of writing and global justice. When not daydreaming about travel, Amyrose can usually be found watching TV quiz shows or bopping to Joni Mitchell.

Diversity + Inclusion Editor

Conor Courtney is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (B.A.) and Dublin Business School (LLB), before beginning his LLM in International Commercial Law in University College London. He currently volunteers with the Citizens Advice Bureau and the UCL Rare Dementia Legal Advice Clinic. He also sits on the OUTLaw Network Student Committee. Lockdown hobbies include baking, napping, and TikTok. He has been an editor and writer with STAND News for 3 months.

Environment Editor

Anastasiya is our current Environment Section Editor. All things sustainability and green related are right up Anastasiya’s alley. She is the proud mom of two hedgehogs and never too far away from her computer to respond to any questions from the team. Anastasiya has six years of print/media/editing experience which is almost a lifetime in a sense. She loves hearing new and exciting ideas all across the board and can offer any guidance and advice that might be needed in relation to print/media or broadcasting. Anastasiya is also a published author so if you need someone to look at your drafts hit her up! Anastasiya wishes everyone to stay safe and stay inspired!

Arianna is our Video Editor. Having completed her MA in Film Studies from Trinity, she has developed a unique artistic style of video editing. Her experimental methods make for both engaging and playful content. Her videos exhibit her interests in human rights, sustainability and the arts. In her spare time she enjoys digital drawing, video games, reading and going camping!

Arts + Culture Editor

Deepthi is our Arts + Culture Editor. She completed last year a MA in International Relations in UCD, specialising in Gender Violence during Conflict. She’s interested by forced migration, climate change, gender violence, conflict in Middle East and North Africa, International business, reviewing films and documentaries. Her hobbies are travelling, photography, writing, cooking, motor bikes and movies! She’s been contributing for STAND since June 2018. Interestingly, she has a car driving licence but never drove a car since the driving test.

Business + Politics Editor

Megan is our Business + Politics Editor. She is 21, from Dublin and in her third year of BSc Applied Social Science at NUI Galway. Megan loves the water and frequently sea-swims and occasionally kayaks and surfs. Megan enjoys writing poetry and article writing for the NUIG Style Society’s online zine Ethereal and STAND. She is part of a few NGO’s including Plan Ireland and The Surf Project and enjoys volunteering, campaigning and event organising. Megan has been working as an editor at STAND since the end of February.

Women Editor

Ellen is the current Women’s Section Editor for STAND News, formerly the Business & Politics editor. Originally from Belfast, she graduated from University College Cork in 2019 and is currently living in the Netherlands studying towards an MA in Journalism. Working with Amnesty International during her BA, she wanted to find a way to combine an interest in human rights with an interest in writing. Ellen is passionate about combining good journalism with a focus on justice and human rights, and in telling important stories in a sensitive and open-minded way.

Opinion Editor

After completing the Stand Global Issues Course in her first year of university, Olivia has been our Opinion Editor since August 2019 – and hasn’t looked back since! Olivia is a third year Law and Political Science student at Trinity College Dublin. As Copy Editor with The Eagle: Trinity College Law Gazette and Activity Leader with Saint Vincent de Paul, she is passionate both about writing and social justice – making STAND News the ideal platform for her! She was delighted to be awarded STAND News: Editor of the Year for 2020.
