Stand News contributors research, write and edit features and articles for use on our News website. Contributors are able to explore topics of their own interest as well as supporting the development of priority articles identified by the STAND News Editors. All work published with STAND News is expected to align with our core values and place emphasis on connections and crossover between local and global issues. Contributors will work with the STAND News Editor and various Section Editors. They also have access to regular trainings by industry professionals and experts to support their continued growth as writers and activists. This is a voluntary position.
ABOUT STAND NEWS: The aim of STAND News is to provide a dynamic space for students in Ireland to learn more about global issues while focusing on stories of justice, equality and international development. Our team consists of voluntary students and recent graduates who come from a range of backgrounds but all have one thing in common: a keen interest in global issues and creating positive change.
Our articles and content are focused on sharing what we learn about the connections between local and global issues. We remain committed to the spirit of student activism that drives us to hold this space for young voices and the dialogues we hope to nurture. We hope to foster compassionate perspectives and action in solidarity with our community of writers, readers, and beyond.
STAND News is not just about writing articles. We are looking for volunteers who would like to gain experience in multimedia content creation, with a particular focus on social media video content such as reels and short-form video.
Examples of what you might create include: a weekly news round-up, interviews with students, or a short explainer on a specific topic. Training is provided, so you do not need prior experience, just enthusiasm and a curiosity about global justice and sustainability issues. Dates
- Global Issues @ UCD – Tuesday 29th September to Tuesday 3rd November, 6:30 – 8:30PM
- Global Issues @ TU Dublin - Wednesday 7th October to Wednesday 4th November, 6:30-8:30PM
Role: Support sessions, liaise with facilitators, welcome participants, manage logistics (rooms, tech, chat/moderation), help with promotion, and act as the link between students and STAND.
What you’ll gain:

Commitment: 2 hrs per week for 6 weeks + ~1 hr for prep/admin.

The STAND Global Solidarity Festival is a week-long celebration of global citizenship across campuses in Ireland. Each year, it brings students together through our vibrant outdoor exhibition, the lively Global Solidarity Fair, and a variety of thought-provoking events run by students, staff, and guest speakers. From creative workshops and talks to interactive displays, the Festival is a chance to explore how we can build a fairer, more sustainable world .
By joining the Festival Team, you’ll play a key part in making this exciting week happen on your campus.
What you’ll do
As a Festival Team Volunteer, you’ll support the STAND Festival Manger and your campus team by:
- Joining one short (1 hour) online planning sessions with the Festival Coordinator.
- Helping with light administration in the lead-up (e.g. putting up posters, confirming room bookings, sharing event info).
- Assisting with arrangements for the Global Solidarity Fair (supporting stalls, logistics, and set-up).
- Being hands-on during Festival Week – helping events run smoothly, welcoming participants, and representing STAND on campus
Why volunteer?
This role is designed to be flexible and fun – a small time commitment with a big impact. As a Festival Team Volunteer, you will:
- Gain practical skills in event coordination, communications, and teamwork.
- Grow your network by connecting with student leaders, campus staff, NGOs, and guest speakers.
- Boost your CV with real experience in organising and delivering a national festival.
- Make a difference by creating a space for students to engage with global issues in creative and inspiring ways.
Time commitment
- Before the Festival: 1-hour online planning sessions, plus light support in your own time (1–2 hours max).
- During Festival Week: Availability to support at events and the Global Solidarity Fair (flexible shifts).

Are you looking for volunteering opportunities to contribute towards your student volunteer award? Are you interested in social justice and in helping to advocate equality on your campus - while joining a supportive community of activists and changemakers?
STAND is recruiting volunteer STAND Ambassadors on four campuses - UL, UCC, MU and TCD - this Spring.
Ambassadors will be the ‘friendly face’ of STAND on campus and play a key role in raising awareness of student opportunities, representing STAND at outreach events and helping to bring the STAND Festival to life.
Time commitment: 10 -14 hours between January - March 2025
Key dates: The Festival will spend one week on the following campuses where Ambassador support availability will be required.
- University College Cork (UCC): 10-14th February
- University of Limerick (UL): 17 - 21st February
- Maynooth University (MU): 3rd - 7th March
- Trinity College Dublin (TCD): 10 - 14th March
Deadline to apply: 17th January 2025
Time commitment:
Approximately 10 – 14 hours over 2 months, which includes:
- online induction: week of 3rd February 2025
- Approx 2 hours per week in lead up to Festival on your campus
- 1 –2 hours per day during Festival week
- Additional time as you wish
Required activities:
- Represent STAND at least one outreach event during the academic year (eg. an info booth or fair - materials and merchandise provided!)
- Represent STAND at info booth during STAND Festival Week (1 – 2 hours)
- Actively seek opportunities to promote STAND opportunities among students and staff
Optional activities:
- Create 1-2 pieces of content for STAND online platforms eg. Tiktok / Instagram / STAND News
- Other activities as they arise – we love creative ideas!

As a STAND Champion, you'll be the go-to person for bringing STAND's programmes and opportunities to your society community. From creating content and sharing across your society's social media accounts and mailing lists, to distributing printed materials at events, your role is to make sure students around you don't miss out. It's a flexible, creative volunteering role that fits around your studies and you choose how and when you get involved.
In return, you'll build real, practical experience in outreach, marketing, and communications, skills that look great on any CV. You'll also get exclusive access to STAND programmes: society members who help promote our events are rewarded with discounted or free places on paid programmes, so your involvement opens doors for you and your whole society.
